Another black business owner is being forced out of Detroit

Earlier this year we reported on two black business owners who felt they were being wrongly evicted from their leases. The story is one that's becoming more and more popular as Detroit becomes increasingly gentrified. As new owners purchase buildings, many long-time tenants are being forced out. 

It's a similar story for Spectacles, a shop that's been operating inside 230 East Grand River for more than 30 years. The building recently sold and now the shop, along with tenants who live in lofts above it, are being asked to vacate the property in the next 30 days. 

According to a Detroit News story, Zana Smith, the shop's owner, didn't have a traditional lease with her landlord. Instead, she paid her rent month-to-month. 

Smith wasn't immediately available for comment and there has been no word yet if she plans to relocate her store.
