Planned Parenthood cancels Detroit event in wake of Colorado shooting

In light of the terribly tragic Thanksgiving weekend shooting and stand-off at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado which left three people dead and nine others injured, an event scheduled to take place this morning in Detroit was canceled.

MLive reports that today's event was on the books before the shooting took place and intended to give both the media and the public face time with Democratic Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence of Michigan to talk about how de-funding the non-profit "could adversely affect the Michigan residents who depend of Planned Parenthood for basic care."

“Our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy, and to those who suffered injuries," a spokeswoman for Lawrence said in a statement. "We take this time to reassert our commitment to basic, preventive reproductive health care for all.”

The spokeswoman said Lawrence hopes to reschedule the event.
