Listen to Scott Grooves' 2009 classic "Detroit 808"

Can a track be seriously considered a dance classic if it's less than six years old? In the case of Detroit DJ and producer Scott Grooves' 2009 cut "Detroit 808," the answer is a resounding "yes." The song has great flow, and it's really engaging the way he mixes old school sounds with newer production techniques and not-cheesy keyboard washes. 


It doesn't seem super easy to find an original 12", but the thing is all over YouTube so it's not hard to hear it, at least. The 12" was originally released on the Natural Midi label, in an edition of 808. A press release from the time stated that the track was the first of a 3-part limited release. "Each track will combine today's progressive sounds with yesterdays classic drum machines namely the 808, 909 and 606. Each twelve inch will have a limited, numbered vinyl release. The amount of the pressing will coincide with the name of each particular drum machine. The sonic objective of these releases would be to show that anything classic can never go out of style."
