There is a logical explanation! According to MLive, the kangaroo belongs to Exotic Zoo, a traveling educational animal show that was visiting a local birthday party.

A viral tweet originally posted yesterday shows a video of a man in what appears to be Detroit’s University District walking (umm, make that running) with what appears to be a kangaroo on a leash.
Sure, this isn’t tiger in the Packard Plant-level weird, but it’s up there.
