Arrived in Austin Friday morning for a brief two day music binge. I’m wishing I came earlier after hearing Jack White played a brief solo show at his Third Man Rolling Record Store. No Jack White was to be found on Friday afternoon, but there was still a long line of fans waiting to buy records, T shirts, and other yellow and black miscellany. I made off with the 5.6.7.8’s “Sh-Jo-Ji”, afraid it might melt in the Austin sun.
Caught Alex Winston at a Dickies/Filter Magazine party later. The young former Detroiter appears to have ditched her “too pop for punk/too punk for pop” routine in favor of a take of janglier, more soulful pop, with a wider backing band dubbed “The Sister Wives”… no word on their connection to the TLC show “Sister Wives”. Was mildly amused to see that Pitchfork linked to an old interview I did with her about Ted Nugent in their SXSW coverage.
