As part of Atwater in the Park‘s first anniversary, the public will be getting something a little special this Thursday.

Atwater Brewing Company recently acquired a distillers permit and is now in the process of making spirits. According to Eric Djordjevic of the Epicurean Group, the brewery is working on a vodka, gin, whiskey, an 8-year whiskey, rum, and an agave-based spirit. He says down the road they also hope to work on infusions as well as other spirits.

For now, the spirits are being distilled mostly at the brewery’s downtown location, but Atwater in the Park does have one large still. Though the spirits are being made downtown, they’ll be available first at Atwater in the Park.

On Thursday, Atwater in the Park will hold a special first anniversary party where samples of the spirits will be available.

Djordjevic says eventually spirits will be available at the downtown location, and even later they’ll be available in a retail setting.

Atwater in the Park is located at 1175 Lakepointe St., Grosse Pointe Park.
