Next month, Detroit will host the national “Weird Homes Tour,” which has been on the hunt for “the most eccentric, funky, extraordinary, offbeat, magical, and ‘weird’ homes Detroit has to offer.”
The self-guided tour is set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, and will showcase 10 homes, with homeowners on hand to answer questions. Tickets are $30, or $45 for the full tour experience and “exclusive access” to one VIP house. They can be purchased here.

The tour was founded in Austin, Texas in 2014 “with a vision to showcase the places that make cities fun, irreverent and strange, and to give people a glimpse into these authentic dwellings, many of them home to local artists, performers and creatives,” according to a press release. This is the first time the tour has made it to Detroit; previous stops were in Austin, Houston, and New Orleans.
According to organizers, Detroit’s edition will give back to the community by donating 10 percent of gross ticket sales to the United Community Housing Coalition to help support their fight for affordable housing.
