Filmmakers, writers, entrepreneurs, musicians, dancers, radio producers, youth organizers, and other creators are gathering in Detroit for the 17th Allied Media Conference, which features a diversity of panels, sessions, workshops, presentations, and more.
The conference kicks off Thursday, June 18 with programming scheduled through June 22. Last year, the conference hosted nearly 2,000 participants. This year’s event has grown to feature over 300 workshops, panels, film screenings, tours, and art and music events.
This year, the conference offers “Tracks,” or themed series of sessions such as “Alternative Economies: Building the Other World
That’s Possible,” “Creative Coping and Grieving Arts,” “Women in Hip Hop as Resistance and Expression,” and “Filmmaking & Beyond, Youth Creating Worlds.” The conference will also offer hands-on open studio spaces such as “The Future Design Lab, Intergalactic Intergenerational Justice” and “Really Rad Radio and TV Takeover.”
Additionally, each night ends with musical performances from the likes of Seattle-based hip-hop duo THEESatisfaction, Los Angeles-based Chicano band Las Cafeteras, Detroit hip-hop duo Passalacqua, rock band Rebel Kind, and more.
