Laundromat-coffee shop The Commons opens in Islandview

A new laundromat, cafe, and community space called The Commons is sudsing up Islandview.

The Common's coffee menu includes all the standard cafe options like espresso, latte, mocha, chai, tea, cold brew, and iced tea, and offers it all for $4 and under.

Food options include soups, chilis, pastries, and baked goods, and The Commons offers products from local vendors like Populace Coffee, GreenHouse Soups & Chili, Kaleidoscope Chocolate, Pink Elephant Products, INTU Specialty Teas, Rishi Organic Tea, On The Rise Bakery, Avalon, Sweet Potato Sensations, Nikki's Ginger Tea, Faygo, Calder Dairy, and more.

The shop is an effort of Mack Avenue Community Church Development group and, according to its website, is part of a larger "holistic revitalization of Detroit's 48214 zip code."

The Commons is located at 7900 Mack Ave. in Detroit. Regular hours are from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday; and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
