If you've got somebody to love, or are just in a serious "like" mode, we suggest you do your Valentine's Day sweet-treat shopping at Detroit's Avalon International Breads at 422 W. Willis St.
Why the promo? Sadly, its not because the Hits has been well-bribed with any Avalon goodies. No, the reason for the plug is that the good folks at Avalon are "sharing the love" and donating a portion of their Valentine's Day gift packages to the worthy group AIDS Partnership Michigan. In addition, the bakery will also donate a portion of all in-store sales on Feb. 14, to the group, which provides much-needed services to the HIV/AIDS community. Like most nonprofit groups in Michigan, the group is finding fundraising to be a real challenge these days, and Avalon wants to help.
"We're doing well and they are having hard time," bakery co-owner Jackie Victor explains. "They are a very effective organization, and the work they do is very important. We saw doing this as a way to help."
We think that's a truly sweet thing. For info call the bakery at 313-832-0008 or visit the partnership's website at aidspartnership.org.
So, get in touch with them, and share the love. But keep one of the bakery's amazing Amazon brownies all to yourself as a reward for doing something good.
