Maybe it is the incredibly beautiful weather we’ve experienced lately. Or the fact that the Detroit Lions are 2-0. Or, perhaps, it is because we are still basking in the glow of a weekend much enjoyed. Whatever the reason, the Abandoned Structure Squad is in the throes of an uncharacteristically good mood this week. As a result, we decided to set aside our usual snide cynicism and, as the song advises, accentuate the positive. Which means that, instead of featuring some hulking abandoned wreck, we instead are directing your attention to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and its online auction, where seized properties can be snapped up at bargain prices. In particular, we are looking at a nifty two-family flat at 2525 Ford in Detroit. Each unit has three bedrooms, and there is “beautiful wood detail throughout,” according to the property description. The current bid (as of Monday) is $5,400. The purchaser will also be responsible for $5,200 in back taxes and utility bills. Bidding ends Sept. 27. For more information about this and other properties go to waynecounty.com/WCAuctions.
