Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera underwent right-ankle surgery yesterday in Charlotte, North Carolina, to remove bone spurs and to repair a stress fracture that hobbled him for much of the 2014 season.

Cabrera, who still managed to hit .313, with 25 homers and 109 RBI, will be re-evaluated in three months. His status for spring training remains unclear.
