In honor of the annual Sunshine Week, a number of Michigan legislators made a point to introduce bills that would increase transparency in Lansing, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Two doozies the Freep highlights were put forth by state Reps. Gretchen Driskell (D-Saline) and Jeff Irwin (D-Ann Arbor), as well as Sen. David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights):
HB 4351 and SB 224, offered by Driskell and Knezek, would “prohibit former lawmakers, governor, lt. governor, attorney general and secretary of state from becoming a registered lobbyist for two years after leaving office.”
Irwin’s legislation, HB 4352, would “prohibit contracts of $100,000 or more given to vendors who have donated at least $100 in campaign contributions to an elected state official, or given a gift exceeding a certain value to an elected or appointed state official in the previous 12 months.”
