Here’s the quick and dirty scoop: According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal Studios has optioned a story about 1980s Detroit drug kingpin “White Boy” Rick Wershe. The story is by journalist Evan Hughes, and the studio has reportedly attached Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski to head up the project.
Anybody who didn’t live under a rock in Detroit in the 1980s heard about the charismatic young drug dealer (and FBI informant) who is now locked up for life. Rumors still swirl about how Wershe allegedly buried millions of dollars in Detroit to recover one day upon his release.
It’s never a sure thing when a studio “options” a story and proposes a new film, but we’re darn curious to see what it would look like to give Wershe the Hollywood treatment.
