At the aforementioned event, Mayor Kilpatrick introduced top cop Jerry Oliver by saying he is “the person chosen not just by me, but by God,” to lead the city’s police force. Hallelujah and praise be! Unless, of course, Oliver was actually sent our way by a vengeful Yahweh (who long ago grew bored with using locust plagues to smite sinners) as punishment for Detroit becoming a Gomorrah of gambling.
