Melissa Smiley, deputy chief of staff for Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, will soon take a job with the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, the mayor’s spokesperson confirmed Thursday.

Smiley, who worked as research director for Duggan’s transition team, will be replaced by David Massaron, Duggan’s chief assistant corporation counsel director of transformation projects, according to John Roach, Duggan’s spokesperson.

Massaron, who previously worked at Miller Canfield and Dickinson Wright PLLC, is a “real sharp guy,” Roach told MT.

When Smiley joins the Detroit-based foundation, expected sometime later this month, she will assume the role of special assistant and strategy officer for President Mariam Noland’s office.

Smiley didn’t respond to a request for comment by email.
