All they had to do was introduce themselves to the 30 or so Detroit high school students sitting in on a session last week. But the Detroit City Council acted as if they were competing for a class-clown award. When councilmember Brenda Scott, who was chairing the meeting, asked President Gil Hill to introduce his colleagues, he said, “I don’t know these people.”
After much playful banter (or at least what passes for such at Detroit City Council) the topper came when councilmember Kay Everett, wearing a straw hat trimmed in colorful stripes, was told by a student, “I like your hat.”
“You’re the only one,” chided Cleveland.
