One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish … Take a peek into the surreal dreamscape of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. The Art of Dr. Seuss features a seldom-glimpsed side of Seuss, including his early work, poetry, editorial cartoons and items from his personal archives. This is a national touring exhibit; some pieces are for sale. The opening reception is Thursday, Nov. 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Art Leaders Gallery, 33030 Northwestern Highway, West Bloomfield; 888-264-4887; www.artleaders.com.

This weekend is your last chance to catch the joint exhibits by multimedia artist Nolan Simon and painter Wendy Roberts at Meadow Brook Art Gallery. Simon’s work, under the title Appliance, features sleek, streamlined interpretations of slender white boxes, linen and stainless steel. Some resemble couture briefcases, while other pieces look like components of a futuristic kitchen. Roberts, a student of abstract expressionism, creates complex layers of acrylic paint on wooden canvases. The result is softly muted and lovely. The show closes on Sunday, Nov. 14. On the campus of Oakland University, 208 Wilson Hall, Rochester; call 248-370-3005; www.oakland.edu/mbag.
