Michigan gas prices have climbed above an average $3 per gallon to their most expensive in about three years, AAA reports.

The average price for a gallon of gas has risen to $3.02 across the state — a level not seen since August, 2015. That average is up 14 cents from just a week ago, the sharpest increase seen by any state, according to AAA.

The price hike comes as gas stations across the country switch to their more expensive summer blend fuel. And with the summer driving season approaching, relief may not come for a while. A spokeswoman for AAA tells local media that demand has been on the rise for eight weeks, and the trend is expected to continue throughout the summer months. The price of crude oil has also increased since President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.

If you're getting gas in metro Detroit, your best bet is to rely on a station in Wayne County. The average gas price there is $2.96. In Oakland County, it's $3.06 and in Macomb County, it's $3.02.
