Newbie Mustard Plug bassist Richard Johnson is an admitted nerd. In addition to touring with said Michigan ska giants (and his own self-titled Richard Johnson’s Rock ’n’ Roll Machine band), the one-time Skeptic and Temple of Doom man also collects vintage Moog records, video game systems and is keen to get into flying airplanes (models, of course). This Muskegon native loves to bump uglies with ska fans and chicks with a librarian mien. Here are Dick’s five monomanias of the week.
5. The end of New Year’s resolutions: Cool it with that stuff and have fun for the rest of the year.
4. The Sarasota, FlA., decision to take Macs out of their school systems because it will be too expensive — have fun with all the viruses and spyware that you are going to have to deal with.
3. People who keep asking me if ska music is still going strong: Although I have only been in Mustard Plug a short time, I can say that things are stronger now than they have ever been.
2. Kids stay in school: Rock ’n’ roll does horrible things to your joints. Arthritis developing in your ankles at 24 is awesome.
1. Old Navy commercial voice-overs: Honestly, you could have synced up the voices to match a little better. It’s not like you are not sitting on millions of dollars.
