That's more of a trend we've been documenting since 2006's cover story Last of the independents. Unrelentingly, the trend continues. Car City Records was founded by Peter Dale as Car City Classics (on Jefferson in Detroit; we're not sure whether it was late '70s or early '80s). He eventually moved and sold Car City, and later founded Encore Recordings in Ann Arbor.
It, too, was endangered earlier this year, when Dale wanted out to follow other pursuits. But a deal was struck to sell it to its employees.
