On Tuesday, Mayor Mike Duggan surprised during his State of the City address when he announced that the abandoned bandshell on the former Michigan State Faigrounds was not going to be demolished by Amazon, who is building a new distribution center there. Instead, the bandshell — which has hosted numerous famous acts throughout more than 80 years of history — will be preserved and relocated to another part of the city. Duggan says the city is eyeing nearby Palmer Park, as long as the community wants it; otherwise, the city will find another home for this dome. In the meantime, the city invited Metro Times to take one last look at the bandshell before its move.
