AfroFuture Festival held its first U.S. edition in Detroit over the weekend, taking place at the former site of the Brewster-Douglass Housing Projects. The event showcased music from across the African diaspora, featuring performances by Nigerian stars Asake and Davido, Canadian DJ Kaytranada, Brazilian singer-songwriter Ludmilla, and Congolese rapper Gims. Local talent was also represented, with Detroit’s own Tee Grizzley, Afro-Caribbean collective Jerk x Jollof, and Lana Ladonna on the lineup. Originally launched in Ghana in 2017 under the name “Afrochella,” the festival has since rebranded as AfroFuture.
