Schoolhouse Thursday @ Mix Bricktown Presented by a whole host of local music and art luminaries, including Miriam Silverstein and the Detroit Art Collective, the “Movement Festival Edition” of Schoolhouse Thursday features performances by Detroit’s Bill Bailey, as well as Oscar P, Mike Clark, and more. Friday, 5/27: Smartbar x Resident Advisor @ TV Lounge For a second year, the Detroit club and the Chicago-based dance music authority join together to put on one killer party. This is a seriously great show, especially with the addition of Delano Smith, Derrick Carter, Edward (live), Remote Viewing Party, and Sevron. Whew. Fri., 5-27- Sun., 5-29: Return to the Future: The Art of Techno @ Apothecarium This special pop-up exhibition looks like a can’t-miss event, especially as you’ll have multiple chances to drop by and check out the flyer art. Friday, 5-27: The Blu Party @Bleu If you’re feeling blue (and are open-minded about spelling), head to this off-the-hook party, as you’re sure to get cheerd up in no time thanks to entertainment from Sydney Blu, Christian Martin, Worthy, Gene Farris, The Saunderson Brothers, Landis Lapace, and more. Saturday, 5-28: Tresor 25 Years @ Tangent Gallery It’s very difficult to state how important this pioneering Berlin nightclub and record label is. Tresor not only helped to spark an entire scene in a once blighted metropolitan city, but they’ve supported Detroit music and musicians religiously. True heads have to at least drop by this one. Saturday, 5-28: Technoir 4 @ McCarthy’s Pub El Otro Mundo and Father Abraham are proud to present the return of the aptly and cleverly named after party. This ones diverse and fun as hell, with Semtek, Anonym, Malik Alston, Radio Brovold, the Club Creeps, and way more. Doors at 10 p.m.; 1600 W. Fort St., Detroit; $20.
Saturday, 5-28: Keep Movin’ @ The Keep Electronic and hip-hop hybrids abound at this party presented by Nix productions and the Speed of Sound. You’ll hear DJ Clent, DJ Psycho, Nick Speed, DJ Dash, and TheMRMR. Speed remains one of the hardest working producers in Detroit today, so this is highly recommended. Saturday, 5-28: Ellum Night @ Populux Populism is explicitly fun in this exciting show present by Populux. Maceo Plex, Job Jobse, Maars, Convextion, and North Lake will each turn it up to 11 and force your neon hoodie to shake uncontrollably. Saturday, 5-28: Detroit Rave Scene @ Club Fantasy Detroit This event will be so off-the-hook, it’s like there was never a hook in the first place, as it combines EDM superheroes Dubloadz and Widdler (plus 13 others) with the out of control party-starters Detroit Rave Scene, and Detroit’s aptly-named Club Fantasy. Saturday, 5-28: 30th Anniversary of Transmat @ MOCAD This is sure to be a highlight of all events this weekend, as Analog Room presents the 30th anniversary of Derrick May’s classic record label Transmat with performances by Juan Atkins, Salar Ansari, and the man himself. Saturday, 5-28: Detroit Love @ Masonic Temple Say you have to work all day during the fest and cannot make it to Hart Plaza in the daytime, then this after-party will be the one you will want to hit up. Detroit Love presents sets from Carl Craig, Dubfire, Seth Troxler, and Keith Kemp — and the party lasts until 4 a.m. Doors at 11 p.m.; 500 Temple St, Detroit; themasonic.com; Tickets $25.
Saturday, 5-28: Captn20, Carter Cruise @ V Nightclub If one of your biggest complaints about Movement is its lack of bottle service, then don your shiniest clothes and get your gorgeous, tanned self over to the wondrous V Nightclub. Resident DJ Captn20 and guest Carter Cruise will knock your socks right off with Vegas style— it’s here if you want it, right near Hart Plaza. Starts at 10 p.m.; 1777 3rd St., Detroit; $20.
Saturday, 5-28: Soul Clap’s House of EFunk @ TV Lounge Funk and electronic music go together like peanut butter and jelly; it just makes sense. Saturday, 5-28: Discwoman @ UFO Factory This after-party is all about women in electronic music, and we are very excited by their musically diverse lineup. Monday, 5-30: Need I Say More XI @ The Old Miami If you really don’t want to stop partying, this is the event for you — but you probably knew that already! Monday, 5-30: The End. @ Russell Industrial Center Ready to rave on all night because you don’t want the long weekend to end? Perhaps you’ve already called in sick for Tuesday morning? Monday, 5-30: Official Movement Closing Party @ Masonic Temple Fountain Ballroom You might as well end what promises to be a beautiful Movement festival in a lovely environment at Paxahau’s closing after party.
