Clarkston’s dining scene has a new centerpiece with the opening of Rudy’s Prime Steakhouse, a contemporary steakhouse housed in the historic Rudy’s Market building at 9 S. Main Street.
Since opening, the restaurant has quickly become a sought-after dining destination, with reservations in high demand.
Co-owned by Chaldean industry veterans Robert Esshaki and Chris Thomas, Rudy’s Prime Steakhouse combines culinary innovation with a commitment to hospitality. Designed by Birmingham-based Saroki Architecture and constructed by Kelly Building & Development Company, the 4,500-square-foot space accommodates up to 132 guests, offering an intimate yet inviting atmosphere.
“This new chapter represents a revitalization of this historic space, infusing it with fresh, innovative energy while honoring the rich legacy of Rudy’s Market,” said co-owner Robert Esshaki. “We’re creating a truly unique destination in downtown Clarkston—one that we hope will remain a beloved cornerstone of the area for years to come.”
The restaurant’s leadership boasts an impressive roster of culinary and hospitality expertise. General manager Jean-Baptiste Caillet brings decades of experience from renowned New York City establishments like Balthazar and Harry’s.
“With 25 years of experience in New York, I’ve learned that exceptional dining is about more than food—it’s about the connection we make with our guests,” Caillet said. “At Rudy’s Prime, we’re focused on elite hospitality and outstanding food while preserving the essence of what made Rudy’s Market so special to this community.”
Executive chef Josh Stockton, a Detroit native, leads the culinary team with a vision that elevates the traditional steakhouse experience. Stockton’s resume includes opening Gold Cash Gold in Detroit’s Corktown, as well as roles at Daniel Boulud Brasserie in Las Vegas and Blackberry Farm in Tennessee. Most recently, he served as Director of Culinary Operations at Birmingham’s Daxton Hotel.
“Rudy’s Prime isn’t your typical steakhouse; it’s a chef-driven experience,” Stockton said. “We’re incorporating seasonal ingredients and creativity into every dish. This level of detail will be a game changer, especially for the Clarkston area.”
The menu features an array of prime and wagyu steaks, fresh seafood, craft cocktails, and house-made desserts. Highlights include dry-aged Prime Porterhouse steaks from Allen Brothers and Piedmontese Tomahawks sourced from Detroit’s Fairway Packing Co. in Eastern Market.
Rudy’s Prime Steakhouse is open Tuesday through Sunday, with hours from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
