Raise the Bar: The Pour House comes to Madison Heights

A relative newcomer to the corner of 12 Mile and Campbell roads in Madison Heights, the Pour House has a lot of potential.

The first thing you'll notice walking in is the bar. It's the focal point of the place, its centerpiece. Wooden shelves reach all the way to the ceiling, showcasing an assortment of whiskeys, bourbons, and scotches along with a selection of large flat-screens that are hung throughout. Copper mugs hang from underneath the largest TV, promising an offering of some version of a Moscow Mule. It seems we're off to a good start.

Though this place hasn't been open for too long, it seems they've already garnered a group of regulars — the bar was already packed around 5 p.m. when we stopped by.

The Pour House prides itself on its large selection of craft beers. A board of all craft beers that are currently available on draft hangs to the right of the bar, and their menu features a large selection of "craft bombers," which include concoctions like B. Nektar, New Holland, Dogfish Head, Unibroue, and more. Beers are served in mason jars.

In addition to beer and whiskey, there's a full bar so don't be afraid to order your favorite cocktail. Of course, they have an extensive list of those too, including specialty cocktails and martinis. There is indeed a version of the classic Moscow Mule, it's called an American Mule, and it's made with Tito's Vodka. Similarly their Blood Bath Mary is a take on the classic brunch beverage, also made with Tito's. It's garnished with a venison stick, which you won't find in many places. They also have a selection of wines available both by the glass and by the bottle.

Mirroring their drink menu, the food menu is enormous and may take some time to peruse. There are traditional bar-style appetizers like fried pickles, wings, egg rolls, chicken fingers, potato skins, venison sticks, and a venison platter.

The menu offers three salads, which are essentially their takes on Greek, Caesar, and Michigan cherry salads and after that, the menu explodes into pages and pages of sandwiches, burgers, entrees, and pizzas, and desserts.

With high-top tables scattered throughout the bar, the atmosphere doesn't lend itself to the sort of place you'd go for a cozy dinner but where you'd grab some grub while hanging out. Come evening time, the place hosts DJs and bands, giving it a nightlife vibe.
