Between the hard times job-seekers face and the fundamentalist yahoos in Lansing, sometimes you can feel pretty glum about life in Michissippi. But as spring comes our way again, it’s a good time to remember that Michigan remains a great place for food. With more than 10 million acres of farmland, the Great Lakes State ranks second nationwide as the most agriculturally diverse state according to the Michigan Agriculture Council. We’re also one of the top organic producers in the nation, ranking 12th in the country, with more than 200 certified organic farms. Over the last 20 years, the state’s craft brewers have built up one of the most respectable brewing scenes in the country. Add it all up and it’s something to be darn proud about, all other things aside.
