This week in Detroit grocery store news we learn that the city’s second Meijer supermarket is slated to open next week.
The new retail space, which is located at Grand River and McNichols, is being advertised as a “neighborhood store,” reports MLive, one that will sport locally-sourced produce and create some 270+ new jobs for local residents. At 190,000 square feet, it certainly would be the largest “neighborhood store” we know of.
The supercenter will be inagurated on Thursday, June 11 at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and both Mayor Mike Duggan and several Meijer bigwigs are expected to attend.
The store will open daily at 7 a.m.
