Does the home of Detroit-style pizza have room for Chicago-style pizza?

Chicago-based Rosati’s Pizza opened its first Michigan location in Southfield and is celebrating by offering free slices from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, limited to one per person.

The pizzeria is located at 29854 Northwestern Hwy.

The family-owned chain was founded in 1964 and became the fourth-largest in the Chicago area, behind Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and Little Caesars. It now boasts more than 200 locations across the U.S.

It’s known for Chicago’s two distinct pizzas: crispy, thin-crust tavern-style and thick casserole-like deep dish pies.

The menu also features other Italian American dishes like pastas, sandwiches, and salads.

“We’re excited to introduce Rosati’s to Michigan and to be part of the Southfield community,” Chintan Patel, owner of the Southfield location, said in a press release. “Rosati’s Pizza has a long history rooted in quality ingredients and family recipes, and it’s something I’ve always appreciated. Bringing that experience here and giving people a chance to try it for the first time is incredibly rewarding. We’re looking forward to welcoming guests and becoming part of the community.”
