Tino Gross Bio
Tino Gross, aka Tino G, born and raised in Detroit, right off the fabled '8 Mile' Rd., has had an ‘under-the-radar’ music presence in the Motor City since his High School days, playing drums with John Lee Hooker, and many other blues and soul giants. Raised by a single parent, a Beatnik-Painter Mom named Nancy, well known in the Cass Corridor/Wayne State area, …. Tino listened to all the late-night blues and rock n roll creeping out of the living room Hi-Fi from Detroit and the Deep South.
Tino went on to perform and record with many of the blues giants of the day, including Bo Diddley, Big Walter Horton, Johnny Shines, Otis Rush, Eddie Taylor, John Nicholas, Doctor Ross. and others… and was invited to sit-in and perform in-person with Bob Dylan at The FOX Theatre in Detroit, playing guitar on the Elmore James classic, 'Dust My Broom'
Tino opened his Funky D Studios and record label out of a basement in the Motor City area and has done award-winning writing and production with R.L. Burnside (2 albums), Nathaniel Mayer, Little Freddie King, Kenny Brown, Uncle Kracker, Howling Diablos, Horse Cave Trio, The Royal Blackbirds, The Ruiners, Barrett Strong, Robert Bateman, The Original Vandellas, Jimmie Bones, Robert Bradley, and the single, 'Bob Dylan Was The First Rapper' with ‘deaf’ rapper Sean Forbes, sharing a co-write with Bob Dylan.
Tino G recently produced the new John Sinclair album, ’Still Kickin’, the follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed ‘Mobile Homeland’.
