1. Tj’s Shanghai Dumplings
27312 John R Rd., Madison Heights; 248-586-9588; tjsshanghaidumplings.com
“YOU MUST GO HERE! I'm new to Detroit and wanted to find where the good Asian restaurants are - turns out it's in Madison Heights! TJ's Shanghai Dumplings had 5 out of 5 stars, and I love me some dumplings! I got the pork dumplings and the scallion pancakes, and I am not lying when I say that the dumplings are 10x better than any other potstickers I've had in my life. Granted, I grew up in an area sadly lacking in potstickers, but these guys are game-changers. The scallion pancakes are delish as well. TBH, I got takeout two days ago, and I think I might swing by today to try out the wonton soup since it gets such good reviews. The menu is very limited, but that's a good thing. Do one thing, and do it right! Restaurant is small and very clean. The owner was nice and friendly. No issues ordering over the phone as another reviewer mentioned. GO HERE! If you like dumplings, you will not be disappointed.” — Katherine W. on Yelp

2. LC’s Asian Kitchen
29070 N. Campbell Rd., Madison Heights; 248-584-2505; lcsasiankitchenmi.com
“Straight-up, good Chinese takeout! I had given up trying to find good Chinese until LC's. I read some reviews for dishes and we narrowed our choices down to sesame chicken, Orange beef, and the house special, fried rice! The sesame chicken is so flavorful and nestled in the crunch is actual chicken meat and not all batter. The orange beef has some of the best texture I've had as it's crunchy and tender and not chewy. If you can get down with some fried rice, do yourself a favor and get the house special. It's loaded with chicken, pork, and shrimp and could be a meal in itself. We decided against the combos and ordered three separate dishes and between two people, we will make this work for three meals each! I highly recommend if you love you some Chinese takeout! We loved our dishes but would be happy to explore some more in the future!” — Kim T. on Yelp

3. Johnny Noodle King
2601 W. Fort, Detroit; 313-309-7946; johnnynoodleking.com
“A tiny little oasis of noodle glory on a slightly more desolate edge of Detroit city. Drive there. Wait in line. It's worth it, trust me. It's casual. It is small. It is consistently good. Get the inari bun. It is $3 and if you don't like it.... well maybe you have issues. It's so good. All of the ramen options I've tried are great, and there is an excellent selection of add ons. If you aren't feeling ramen-y the smoked butter noodles are delicious and the pad see ew is fantastic. I have yet to order a salad but they always look great. The house sake with pour-over box is lovely. The staff at Johnny seems to have longevity too, which is nice and surely says something about the establishment itself. Ways friendly and attentive.” — Lana B. on Yelp

4. Kong Kow Restaurant
13337 Michigan Ave., Dearborn; 313-581-5576; zmenu.com/kong-kow-restaurant
“I have eaten Chinese food all over the Detroit metro area, but this restaurant is my go-to favorite. I always order take-out and have enjoyed, without complaint, many of the delicious menu choices which are always prepared to my specific request and liking. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable although they accept CASH ONLY. The staff is very pleasant and I must mention that the cook was one of two finalists and won Bravo TV's coveted "Top Chef" title a few years ago! Top Chef status is certainly reflected in the food prepared.” — Val G. on Yelp

5. The Peterboro
420 Peterboro St., Detroit; 313-833-1111; thepeterboro.com
“So flippin' good! My first time here. Not your typical Asian American food. Unique, delicious appetizers and dinners. I recommend the bau buns as a starter. Plus the $4 whiskey pours and a full menu of traditional and creative cocktails. Convenient parking (always a plus in the city) and a really friendly staff. Can't wait to go back!!” Kelly P. on Yelp

6. Red Star Restaurant
13944 Michigan Ave., Dearborn; redstarchinese.weebly.com
“This place has an incredible vegan menu. Almost everything can be made vegan, and it's some the best Chinese food you'll ever have. Portions are gigantic, always enough for another full meal at home. The soup comes in a bowl large enough to bathe a small child. Service is always great, prompt, and with a smile. They're so kind when they recognize return customers. Well worth the drive no matter where you have to travel from.” — Danny H. on Yelp

“The shrimp with lobster sauce dish was amazing. I got the shrimp fried rice for an upcharge, which was totally worth it. The shrimp kow was really tasty and the portions were very nice. I love that they use big shrimp, unlike most Chinese restaurants. The service was also nice and they start you off with a vegetable spring roll, which was a nice touch.” —Faith C. on Yelp

“Whenever I need a quick Chinese fix on my way home from work, this restaurant does the job. I usually order the sweet and sour chicken dinner with sweet and sour sauce and almond chicken gravy on the side (sweet and savory all in one dish)! I have also tried their chicken chow mein and I really like it as well. They also have egg rolls made with bean sprouts which my husband and I love. Overall, this is a consistently good and affordable place for my Chinese food cravings!” —Lily Z. on Yelp

“Wing's Gardens is our go-to Chinese place. Usually, we get take-out, but dining in is fun, too. It's kind of divey, in a great way. The food is delicious and the portions are massive. Leftovers for days! The staff is super friendly and caring, too. Top-notch place. Their egg drop soup is the best around, fried rice is excellent, egg foo young, Singapore noodles, almond chicken (with yellow gravy) — all so good!” — Jill H. on Yelp

10. Wing Hong

“What a sweet little place. So far, Dim Sum is really hard to get a hold of in Michigan and Detroit, so I was really happy to find something that felt authentic American Dim Sum. Everything was warm and well made. A great breakfast if you are feeling a bit delicate and nursing a hangover. The standout thing was the staff. They were excited to have us in and helped us in selecting our plates. Such a kind group of people. We will definitely be back.” — Piper F. on Yelp
