Rounding out Yelp’s Top 20 takeout/delivery spots in the city is Corktown-based breakfast and brunch spot, Brooklyn Street Local, which has us feeling egg-static. The spot offers classic breakfast items made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients. People celebrate the tiny diner’s approach to healthy breakfast and perfectly balanced and more decadent options, like poutine, which is offered in a vegan option, too. A lot of reviewers claim Brooklyn Street Local is where they take all of their out of town guests, while former residents make a trip to BSL a priority when they return. Still not convinced? Ask Detroit’s Shantel T: “Still my favorite spot for breakfast/brunch. I introduced my boyfriend to this place and it's become his favorite too :) warm, friendly service. The coffee here is good as well as the food. Just wholesome, well-cooked, food. No complaints about it. Get the poutine. Get the bacon. Get the quiche. Get everything. Because life's too short for a bad meal. :)” We think the multiple :) says it all.

Leslie Knope would love this pint-size pancake place. So would Ron Swanson, who we just know would go ham over the open-faced brisket. And they would be in good company because a lot of Detroiters love this breakfast and brunch-themed diner’s placement in the top 20. Expect classics like eggs benedict, cinnamon French toast, and biscuits and gravy, all of which is locally sourced and made in-house. Ann Arbor’s Amber P. is a fan. “As Ron Swanson from the show Parks and Rec would say, "There isn't a sadness that can't be cured by breakfast food". I'm certain the meaning of that phrase originated here, this place was an absolute delight!”

All you do is wine, wine, wine, and we’re sick of it. Why don’t you call a cab(ernet)? Too far? Well, folks really seem to go all out for their love of fine dining and fine wine bar Vertical Detroit, which offers high-end fare ranging from scallops, caviar, duck breast, and did we mention wine? Sorry, we’ve been drinking. Anyway, Paige K. from Caro had some kind words: “Normally I stray away from fancy restaurants because you always end up paying more to get less food and it's never as good as it supposed to be... But Vertical freaking nailed this.”

Burgers, beers, and cosmik fries. Can you ask for anything more? Well, the Detroit outpost of the Grand Rapids-based chain HopCat seems to exceed guests’ expectations, based on Yelp reviews, anyway. Like American food? So does HopCat, which is where you can snag some of the best French fries ever, as well as an array of burgers, and lots of other things that are smothered in cheese. Mmm. Cheese. While reviewers champion the food, it’s the service that has a lot of visitors coming back for more. Harrison Township’s Rob P. says, “I'm so impressed with how good the service was with a jammed restaurant. It's great to know that I can come here at any time and get great service and great food.”

This Detroit Riverfront eatery has us just, like, screaming “Hey mambo, mambo Italiano” with zero clue as to what “mambo” means. We’re just excited — and so are Yelp reviewers, especially when it comes to Andiamo’s takeout. One user said they requested their filet be cooked at a specific temperature. When they got it, it was “cooked to perfection.” The chain offers classic Italian fare, and this highly-reviewed location has a lot of guests throwing the word “perfect” around like a goddamn meatball.

Now with a few locations throughout metro Detroit, the original Bobcat Bonnie’s has Yelp reviewers dropping words like “hipster,” “delectable,” and “Cap’n Crunch Chicken.” Wait, what? The Corktown gastropub gets high marks from reviewers for being affordable and accessible with hefty portions. From tacos and tots to Buddah bowls, mac and cheese, and BBQ bacon meatloaf, Bobcat Bonnie’s has nothing if not variety.

There’s pizza and then there’s Detroit-style pizza, and one place reigns supreme in the hearts of many Detroiters and Yelp users. Buddy’s Pizza literally invented Detroit-style pizza back in 1946 using a square steel pan used in the auto industry. With many locations, it’s the original Buddy’s that made Yelp’s top 20 with reviews like that left by pizza patriot Donald S. of Boca Raton: “I've now been to the mecca, and it was truly glorious. I love pizza just as much as the next guy. As a born American, it's pretty much in our blood... You know what, I'm feeling brave. For all my friends who've never had the courage to say it, this one's for you. NY....your pizza is overrated. There...I said it.” Thank you for your service, Don.

Praise be to bread. It’s no wonder Avalon International Bread’s flagship bakery made the list. With several locations (Ann Arbor, New Center, and downtown Detroit) their main bakehouse was founded in 1997 along Cass Corridor and serves as an organic community-centric bakery with an array of sweet and savory items, as well as coffee, tea, sandwiches, and salads. Anja F. from Hamtramck put the Avalon experience in a nutshell: “Avalon is a fantastic (women-owned!!!!) bakery/cafe with excellent fare and a lot of flair.” Now, pass the cookies.

We’ve never heard of “nose to tail eating,” but that’s what Old World European tavern-style Republic does best. Well, that, and putting an emphasis on sourcing local and seasonal ingredients and old-world preservation methods. Though a pricier entry on this list, Republic, as described by one Yelp user, is a fairytale. Sure, it’s in a historic castle-like building downtown, but the menu, which changes monthly, is the real prince charming.

We’re not particularly religious or anything, but a bite of Pie-Sci Pizza is like a deep-throat kiss with god. OK — so we have no idea what that is supposed to mean but honestly, this experimental pizza joint (which offers loads of vegan options) in Woodbridge is so good that we feel dizzy just talking about it. And apparently we’re not alone. Just listen to Abby M. from Cleveland, who says the spot "just ruined EVERY OTHER PIZZA PLACE in the USA for me. Pie Sci gives pizza the upgrade you didn't know you wanted, but needed. Is beans on pizza good? no, right? Wrong.” Pie-Sci changes their menu seasonally, which means your favorite pie won’t stick around long but it’s likely they’ll just give you another favorite to lust after and long for.

A burger place inspired by a quote from a Quentin Tarantino movie? Sign us up, motherfucker! OK, back to the burgers. Opened in 2017, this Midtown spot had tasty — and crazy — burgers on lock. Take the Mia Wallace, a beef burger with mesquite BBQ chips, fire-roasted poblanos, corn, house-smoked candied turkey bacon, honey-ancho BBQ aioli, and American-Swiss cheese. They also serve up hand-spun custard shakes in kooky combinations, like cookie butter and Nutella and Fruity Pebbles. Chicago Yelper Supriya V. put it best: “What flavorful, juicy burgers!!”

You don’t need a passport to get your hands on some Cuban fare. Vicente’s Cuban Cusine is “the real deal” when it comes to Cuban flavor, according to one user. From fried plantains, pan con Lechon, ropa vieja, and, yes, a classic Cuban sandwich, Vicente’s menu is like being “transported to Little Havana in Miami or perhaps actual Havana,” Detroit’s Danielle P. writes.

There’s a theme when it comes to those who’ve reviewed Corktown’s Thai-inspired eatery, Takoi: “You'll never try anything like this anywhere else.” The imaginative menu at Takoi is why the celebrated (and decorated) restaurant has survived a fire and a controversial name change and remains a favorite to those with adventurous taste buds who don’t mind a little spice kick. Leave it to Brittany H. from Sterling Heights: “Hellllllllllll to the yes. This place is the bomb.com! As I stated in my last review for here, it's hipster and sexy with loud, sensual music.”

“Home of the best grilled chicken in metro Detriot,” Taqueria El Rey in southwest is far and away a favorite among Yelp users and, like, anyone who has ever hit the ATM to dine at this hole-in-the-wall, cash only staple. Macomb Township’s Cinthia R. says Taqueria El Rey, which translates to "Taco King," earns its crown. “I am more than happy to drive the 50 minutes it takes from my house to this hole in the wall GEM! When I say GEM I mean the real prize is the FLAVOR!! El Rey came through wearing the crown on flavor!”

A downtown breakfast and brunch spot cracking the top five is not surprising, considering the city is flush with offerings. The Hudson Cafe, according to Yelp, is good enough to impress folks from all over. Just take these words from apparent pro-reviewer Autumn M. from New York: “Whether you're in the mood for traditional eggs, savory crepes, or sweet chicken and waffles, Hudson Cafe's comprehensive brunch menu will have something to suit your taste buds.”

Another fine-dining place with a high-end atmosphere and a reputation for being a date night hotspot is among metro Detroiters favorite places to get bone marrow to go. Roast by Michael Symon located downtown is a meat and seafood lover’s paradise. Nick M. from Harrison Township had some glowing words for Roast’s filet mignon with crab bearnaise: “HOLY SH!T.”

3. Wright & Company

This upscale small-plates spot in the heart of downtown Detroit might be best known for its dine-in/cocktail experience, given its killer location and stellar views of bustling Woodward Avenue, but Yelp users ranked it among the top spots for take-out. Helmed by James Beard-nominated chef, Marc Djozlija, Wright & Company is included in Dave Kwiatowski’s restaurant empire (Sugar House, Grandma Bobs, The Peterboro, Bad Luck Bar, Mutiny Tiki Bar, and Honest John’s) and boasts a seasonal menu that offers things like paella arancini, Spanish octopus, and confit duck wings.

2. Mudgie’s Deli & Wine Bar

It’s no surprise that one of Detroit’s favorite sandwich shops made the list, seeing that they’ve garnered national attention for years, thanks to quality ingredients, a wide selection for carnivores and herbivores alike, and, like Kristen K. from Northville says in her Yelp review being “friendly, easy-going, delicious, and consistent.” They also have something called “Lobster Roll Week” which is as mouthwatering as it sounds.

1. Supino Pizza

This Eastern Market pizzeria nabbed the top spot according to Yelp users. Owner Dave Mancini’s beloved New York-style pizza spot was once a pick-up and go spot, but now offers dine-in seating, as well as take-out and delivery via food delivery apps. One user, who rated Supino with five stars, said his order was “amazeballz delicious” and goes on to describe the moment of consumption one of “clarity.” Another happy pizza freak says Supino has “thee best pizza in Detroit! Periodt!” Well, alright then.
