"Creation of Her" by Bre'Ann White

Red is, without question, a power color. Depending on where in the world you call home, red can represent everything from love to mourning. Longtime Detroit-based photographer Bre’Ann White boldly explores color and contrast through her debut solo exhibition, Definition of Red. Composed of 13 large-scale portraits, Definition of Red combines White’s creative evolution with the story of her subject, Ronis, a dark-skinned South Sudanese model. An investigation of war and beauty, heritage and religion, circumstance and transformation — each one red. Definition of Red’s opening reception will feature beverages by Virtue Cider and live music.

'Definition of Red' opening reception begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Playground Detroit; 2845 Gratiot Ave., Detroit; 313-649-7741; playgrounddetroit.com; Event is free.
