It wasn’t a dream, you guys. The
recreational legalization of marijuana in Michigan actually happened, which makes this year’s annual Hash Bash super special, especially when one considers how the event came to be. For 48 years, Hash Bash has attracted thousands of smokers, tokers, and activists to the U-M campus Diag, where stoners are able to bypass the campus’ no-smoking policy with little to no legal repercussions. This year’s single-day celebration — because that’s what it is, a celebration of legalization — will feature guitarist Laith Al-Saadi, who will perform the opening
“Star-Spangled Banner” a la Jimi Hendrix. And the man behind the whole damn thing, activist John Sinclair, will be in attendance as well. While there’s still a lot of work to do (like having real stores to buy the dang stuff), we ask you to raise your bong to the new era of
stonerism.
