Well, Detroit, it could be worse. Consumer research group WalletHub conducted a survey of job markets across the U.S. The group analyzed the relative employment opportunities among the cities, factoring 13 unique metrics ranging from job openings per capita and industry variety to cost of living.

Detroit ranked as 38 out of 60 job markets overall — beating cities like Chicago, Portland, New York and Los Angeles. Detroit also topped two lists within the survey, ranking #1 on a list of annual home-buying power with median salary (53.28 percent, beating Fort Worth, Texas, ranked overall as the best job market) as well as most industrial variety.
