A Warren mail carrier is facing federal charges after nearly 15,000 pieces of undelivered mail were found in her home last month.
WJBK-TV reports that Tiara Vann, 30, was issued a search warrant after a pest control worker serviced Vann's Clinton Township townhome. Upon discovering the hoarded mail, the property manager contacted the authorities.
A search warrant issued the following day revealed that Vann had approximately 14,794 pieces of mail addressed to residents of Warren inside her home. Vann, who has since resigned, had been employed with the Warren Post Office since 2017. She confessed to authorities that the undelivered mail found in her apartment goes as far back as September of last year and appears to be from her route which spanned the 48089 zip code. Vann did not provide an explanation as to why she held on to the mail.
An official with the U.S. Postal Service issued a statement saying that Vann's alleged behavior is not reflective of the "dedicated, hard-working public servants dedicated to moving mail to its proper destination" and that her actions are a direct violation of "public trust."
According to WJBK-TV, the mail will be delivered or returned to sender if needed.
Vann is scheduled to appear in court on March 13.
