Corktown is getting a facelift near the site of the former Tiger Stadium.

Today, The Corner, a mix-use development property at the intersection of Trumbull and Michigan Avenue, began dropping the first of many modular residences that will outfit the complex. The mods come pre-fabricated from an offsite factory, cutting down construction time and allowing for better soundproofing, according to Eric Larson of Larson Realty Group.

As soon as the mods are dropped they are ready for move-in, with kitchen appliances fully installed. The dining room and kitchen come as a singular mod, the bathroom and bedrooms are dropped as additional mods. Modular residences are a popular construction method used in hotel development, Larson also noted to WXYZ.

The complex will offer studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments starting at $1,100 dollars per month. The Corner will also hold 20 percent of units as affordable housing for individuals that make 80 percent or less than the median income of metro Detroit residents. (In Detroit, which factors in Livonia and Warren into its area median income, the average median income is $68,600 for a family of four.)

The new development property will provide 111 apartment residences in Corktown and will also feature retail shops. The Corner will also be less than a mile from the new Ford headquarters which will be taking over the long-vacant Michigan Central Station on 15th Street.

The Corner is currently pre-leasing apartment units and expects to complete the development by February, 2019.
