Dillatroit

An epic night of Detroit hip-hop took place February 12, 2015 at Bert’s on Broadway. “Dillatroit,” an event to celebrate the life and music of James Yancy (J-Dilla) featured stellar performances by Leaf Erikson, Nolan The Ninja, Sunny Cartel, Crown Royal, Detroit City Rockers, 5Ela, Phat Kat, and Guilty Simpson. The night was highlighted by Royce Da 5’9 joining his brother KID Vishis on stage for a performance and the encouragement and inspirational words from J-Dilla’s mom, Mrs. Maureen Yancy (Mamma Dukes).

New Orleans native Jay Electronica closed the night with a mixture of his noteworthy cuts and notable stories. He talked about helping Dilla build his basement studio, his strong Detroit ties, and the moment he found out 10 years ago that Dilla had passed away.
