This weekend, Metro Times' first-ever Rib Fest will take over the Royal Oak Farmers Market. There will be pig races, monster trucks, booze, beer, live music, and — of course — ribs.
Here's a rundown of the meat makers that will be on-site July 3-5.
Jackson's Five Star Catering
Steak, chicken, ribs, hot dogs, burgers — pretty much anything you can cook on a grill is that name of the game for these Ferndale-based caterers.
Old Carolina BBQ
Chicken wings, ribs, beef brisket, and something called a "tar heel dog" are all on the menu at this Ann Arbor barbecue restaurant.
Chicken Shack
Sure, this nearly 50-year-old Michigan staple is known for cooking up some savory and tender broasted chicken, but other meats are also on their menu. Their baby back ribs are award-winning, actually.
Stonewood Smokehouse
Located in Utica, Stonewood Smokehouse serves up brisket, barbecue chicken, deep fried mac and cheese, ribs, pulled pork, burgers, and more inside their brick-faced restaurant. Selections available at Rib Fest are sure to be just as delicious.
Smoke Ring BBQ
This Farmington Hills-based food truck will be on-site with 'que favorites like baby back ribs, pulled pork, ribs, pork belly, and mac and cheese.
Big Moe's BBQ
Award-winning chef and master griller Moe Pritchett will be on-site, whipping up his special (and secret) family recipes. It's the "down home" barbecue sauce that really makes his meat stand out.
Detroit BBQ Company
If you're looking for classic barbecue, Detroit BBQ Company is the place to get it. Tim and Zac Idzikowski make some of the best smoked meats available in Michigan. Swing on by for ribs, chicken, turkey, pork, and more.
Hog Wild BBQ
Based in Howell, this restaurant, catering company, and food truck is known for their award-winning ribs, turkey legs, and homemade sausage.
Niko's Greek Stand
Look, not everyone likes barbecue. Pick up a Greek salad or some lamb at this stand if you're looking for a respite from red meat, pork, and fried chicken.
Big Mike's Southwestern Grille and Taste N Tell BBQ will also be on-site.
Rib Fest takes place from 4-11 p.m. on Friday, July 3, noon to midnight on Saturday, July 4, and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday July 5 at Royal Oak Farmers Market. Admission and parking are free.
