It seems El Caribeño served its final plates of sofrito-soaked pollo guisado and garlicky, buttery mofongo.

The Southwest Detroit Dominican restaurant's doors were recently locked during business hours, its phone number is disconnected, and a quick internet search suggests it's done for good. We reached out for comment but have yet to hear back.

A message on its Facebook page reads, "Change is inevitable and ultimately necessary for growth. Change requires resilience, patience, and trust, it is a web of emotions intertwined perfectly!

We are grateful for all the customers that became family, we will keep you posted on our next venture! ❣️"

That's a giant bummer, because its bright food was some of Southwest's best, and Metro Times praised it in a review a few years back. If you need your Dominican food fix, Asty Time is over on McGraw Avenue, and is the city's only remaining brick-and-mortar option.
