Acclaimed restaurant Marrow says it will close its popular restaurant in Detroit’s West Village and concentrate efforts on its new Eastern Market brasserie instead.

Marrow founder Ping Ho made the announcement in a social media post on Monday, calling the decision “bittersweet.”

Billed as a “neighborhood butcher shop and restaurant,” Marrow opened its West Village location at 8044 Kercheval Ave. in 2018. The restaurant quickly earned critical acclaim, including four James Beard Award nominations.

Marrow opened a storefront in Birmingham at 283 Hamilton Row in 2024 and another project in Detroit’s Eastern Market district at 2442 Riopelle St. in 2025.

In the good-bye message, Ho said that the Birmingham location would run through Memorial Day weekend before pivoting to a new concept, and encouraged people to visit the Eastern Market location, which is described as inspired by French brasseries. Dubbed Marrow in the Market, it includes a meat processing facility and butcher shop, two bars, a large dining room, and a private event space, aiming to appeal to the Eastern Market shopping crowd.

Dinner service at West Village runs through Sunday, June 7. More information is available at marrowdetroit.com.

A note from Ping Ho, Founder

After a lot of reflection, I’ve made the decision to consolidate Marrow and put our full focus on Marrow in Eastern Market, along with the continued growth of Marrow Detroit Provisions. As part of this transition, our final day of dinner service at West Village will be June 7. Birmingham will run through Memorial Day weekend, after which the location will pivot to a new concept — one where Marrow will still have a presence. More details on that transition to come.

We have a beautiful, purpose-built butcher shop and restaurant just a few miles away in Eastern Market, and we hope you’ll continue to be part of our family there. Turning the page on this chapter is bittersweet. Since we opened in West Village in 2018, that space has been home to so many meaningful meals, milestones, and memories. I’m grateful to every person who helped build this, starting with Chef Sarah Welch and our opening team, who helped earn Marrow recognition over the years, and set this company on the path it’s on today.

I’m also deeply grateful to our current team, led by Chef Eddie Moreau, and to the guests who have visited us on Kercheval over the years and made Marrow a part of their memories. Eddie joined us five years ago — and what a five years it has been. He told us from the start that his time with us would close in Summer 2026 when his wife Leah graduated from medical school. They’re heading to Florida to begin her residency in June, and we couldn’t be happier for them both. Congrats, Leah.

West Village will remain open for dinner service through June 7. Please come in, share a meal, and help us celebrate what these spaces have meant. We have some special events ahead — more details coming soon.

We look forward to welcoming you at Eastern Market.
