The Detroit Pop Shop Address Varies The Detroit Pop Shop is an awesome little popsicle stand that offers incredible handcrafted popsicles that put those store bought ice pops to shame. Locally sourced ingredients, healthy selections and inventive recipes come together to create delicious popsicles like Watermelon Basil, Grapefruit Haberñero, and Chocolate Avocado. You can feel good about splurging a few icy treats at one of the stands, too- the stands are operated by the Detroit Food Academy, a nonprofit that empowers Detroit youth through entrepreneurial food experiences. Calder Brother’s Dairy 1020 Southfield Rd, Lincoln Park When it comes to good old fashioned ice cream, it’s hard to beat Calder’s. They’ve been operating in the same location since the 40s, and their milk comes from a family owned farm in Carleton. All of Calder’s ice cream is farm made, and it’s got that creamy flavor that distinguishes the really good, authentic ice cream from the other stuff. Urban Bean Co. 200 Grand River Ave Nestled at the corner of Griswold and Grand River Ave, Urban Bean Co. is an iconic Detroit coffee shop with a lot to like. It has a super cool glass façade and is located in the heart of downtown, offering locally roasted beans and several specialty lattes and mochas. The Huron Room 2547 Bagley Ave The Huron Room is a cool, industrial type joint that has some sweet nautical decor and fish themes. The restaurant’s claim to fame could very well be its extensive and delicious seafood offerings, but the exclusively Michigan stocked bar is equally impressive. That’s right, only Michigan beers, wines, and spirits can be found here, so if you’re looking to indulge yourself, support local businesses, and take the edge off on a hot summer day, head over to the Huron Room. What up Dough! Address Varies What up Dough! is a small cart based cookie vendor that often pops up at Detroit events and food markets. The cookies speak for themselves, they’re fantastic, but when combined with some ice cream to make an “Iceberger”, or an ice cream sandwich, these babies are so good they ought to be illegal. Detroit Water Ice Factory 1014 Woodward Ave One of the newer additions to Detroit’s summer treats scene, the Detroit Water Ice Factory offers customers delicious shaved ice treats that are somewhere between ice cream and a snow cone. A range of different offerings should keep everyone happy, as will the cool Michigan themed flavor names. Kuzzo’s Chicken and Waffles 19345 Livernois Ave Kuzzo’s Chicken and Waffles was founded in 2015 by former NFL player Ron Bartell, who wanted to help continue to revitalize the city by stimulating commerce. Kuzzo’s is a southern cooking joint, featuring all sorts of fried deliciousness and delicacies. Aside from the food, Kuzzo’s southern theme continues over to the drinks, where customers can order beautifully swirled combinations of Kool-Aid and Lemonade.
