2nd & Charles is a used bookstore on steroids

Aiming to be your one stop-spot for all things entertainment and hobby related, 2nd & Charles provides an expansive stock of goodies. It has it all — books, music, instruments, movies, video games, novelties, electronics, along with comics and manga.

2nd & Charles is like a used bookstore on steroids, offering options to buy and sell the items mentioned above, and to exchange them for either cash or store credit. You can bring up to three bins worth of your items to exchange. If you have more than that to exchange, give the store a call and they will give you a better time frame for how long it will take.

"2nd & Charles is far from any typical bookstore," says Scott Kappler, the store's vice president of marketing. "We are all about one-of-a-kind discoveries in almost every category: pop culture, comic books, vinyl records, collectibles — you name it! Each store is truly a treasure trove of books, accessories, and games galore. You could easily spend hours browsing the aisles, and you really never know what you'll find!"

So where does the name 2nd & Charles come from? According to their website: "Second change. Second wind. Second life ... whatever you don't want anymore, somebody else is probably looking for it." "2nd" stands for second-hand, used, previously owned — you get the idea.

Speaking of the selection, it's quite impressive. From the moment you step into the 2nd & Charles, you are able to survey the entire store, and each department is labeled with a sign hanging from the ceiling. The 30,000-square-foot store even features a coffee shop, ChuckStop.

Coffee and books are a natural pairing, Kappler says.

"We have been interested in adding a café to 2nd & Charles for quite some time now, and Utica is the perfect place to launch the concept!

The store already lends itself to long stays, and the addition of a coffee shop makes 2nd & Charles a true community gathering place, Kappler says.

The Utica location is the second 2nd & Charles location to open in Michigan, and the chain has other locations around the country.
