In Michigan, we’ve got two seasons: cold tundra and scorching sun beaming down on us. To escape the summer heat, a refreshing public pool, private pool, or resort might be just what you need. Here’s a rundown of a few Detroit-area pools that you should totally not sneak into.

Lochmoor Club 1018 Sunningdale Dr., Grosse Pointe Woods The Lochmoor Club is a summer safe haven with an award-winning garden, and it’s recognized as one of the premier private clubs in the Detroit Metropolitan area. Its pool is home to a top-rated swimming program, representing an athletic and social side of the club, and also a swimming playground. Rolling Hills Water Park 7660 Stony Creek Rd., Ypsilanti This year-round park is an open field for hiking and skiing trails, righteously beloved for its additional outdoor activities and kingdom-like waterpark. Waterford Oaks Waterpark 1702 Scott Lake Rd., Waterford Twp Crowded waterparks can be a hassle on a hot summer’s day, so after-hours fun may be worth it — especially at Waterford Oaks Waterpark, which is sectioned off into a wave pool, an aquatic playground, and even a small beachy area surfaced with sand. At least that’s the case at the Romulus Athletic Center, where an impressive five-pool complex is used for swimming lessons, water aerobics, lap swimming, open swim, water walking, birthday parties, and other tailored activities and events. Grosse Pointe Yacht Club 788 Lake Shore Rd., Grosse Pointe Shores This private marina and sailing club consists of a pool and splash pad, with closing times between 8 and 9 p.m. throughout the week. The splash pad within itself is described as a “jungle gym and a waterpark combined.”. Photo via
Blue Heron Bay Spray Park 2230 Platt Rd., Ann Arbor Blue Heron Bay Spray Park’s water structure has inducted new slides, enhancing the acceleration of the glide down to the top of the waves. Birmingham Athletic Club 4033 W Maple Rd., Birmingham Open seven days a week, from Labor to Memorial Day, the Birmingham Hills Athletic Club pool allows access to two lap lanes that are open at all times, and a zero-entry pool for children. Family Aquatic Center at Chandler Park 12600 Chandler Park Dr., Detroit This one’s for the kids at heart, as a majority of this aquatic playground is occupied by a large children’s play area. Named Wayne County’s largest waterpark, the aquatic center is sitting on over 22,000 square feet and includes over 100 spray fountains, a 0- to 6-foot wave pool, and two 23-foot-high water slides.
