The Michigan Legislature has considered the idea of raising the speed limit on certain roads throughout the year, but now with Lansing’s lame-duck session in full-effect, that could soon become a reality.

Last week, State. Rep. Brad Jacobsen (R-Oxford) introduced a bill that would increase the speed limit on some of the state’s freeways by 10 miles per hour, according to WWJ-FM 950.

Jacobsen’s bill, HB 5964, specifies that roads called “rural limited access freeways” would experience the increase — that is, any road designated by the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Michigan State Police “to be rural in nature,” WXYZ Channel 7 says

The bill was introduced on Nov. 13 and was referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. WXYZ says the full House will likely consider the bill next month.
