The Michigan Legislature has considered the idea of raising the speed limit on certain roads throughout the year, but now with Lansing’s lame-duck session in full-effect, that could soon become a reality.
Last week, State. Rep. Brad Jacobsen (R-Oxford) introduced a bill that would increase the speed limit on some of the state’s freeways by 10 miles per hour, according to WWJ-FM 950.
Jacobsen’s bill, HB 5964, specifies that roads called “rural limited access freeways” would experience the increase — that is, any road designated by the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Michigan State Police “to be rural in nature,” WXYZ Channel 7 says.
The bill was introduced on Nov. 13 and was referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. WXYZ says the full House will likely consider the bill next month.
