202 E. Third St., Royal Oak; 248-584-4227; lockhartsbbq.com
Named after the reputed barbecue capital of Texas, Lockhart’s opened in late 2010. The kitchen turns out reasonably priced, hefty
portions, with appetizers averaging around $8, sandwiches with one side around
$9 and barbecue plates with two sides around $14. The thin slices of brisket
are well-trimmed and tender, as are the ribs. Wash it all down with an
excellent selection of Michigan microbrews — there are 12 on tap.
