There’s so much overstatement about Detroit — whether it be condemnation or praise — that it’s actually pretty refreshing to hear somebody speak plainly about what they find interesting. We found just such a blog post over the weekend from a recent transplant from Houston to Detroit. Some of the things that strike the newcomer aren’t surprises (abandoned houses) and some might be (the “Michigan left”), but it’s a likable little piece, a one-minute break on a busy Monday. The writer doesn’t get everything right (our troubles began long before the Great Recession) but it’s the thought that counts, right?
