Remember the Singles? The formerly Detroit-based band has been around since 1999, found some success following that whole “garage rock” thing, later relocated to Los Angeles in 2009, and released an album last year with a new lineup.
More recently, actress Scarlett Johansson has formed a new band — also called the Singles. Apparently Johansson and Co. didn’t bother to Google the not-terribly-creative name, and are set to release their first single, “Candy,” on TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek’s label, Federal Prism.
So, the first Singles sent the second Singles a cease-and-desist order Wednesday. “It’s hard to believe that any musician would do something like that to another band,” Singles frontman Vincent Frederick wrote in a press release. “Our band, The Singles, has an account on nearly all social media sites and our music is available in record shops, on iTunes, SoundCloud, and other websites. Just a simple search on Google would have revealed that ‘The Singles’ was already a band name being used by another pop/rock band – our band.”
Hmm. Both bands have a propensity for pop. Maybe Frederick can just let ScarJo in his band?
