“Code of Honor” and “War of Will” might sound like first-person shooter-style video games, but actually, they’re both thoroughbred horses and major contenders for first-place in the 145th Kentucky Derby.

While the race may be all about the hard-working horses, the Kentucky Derby is also an opportunity for derby-goers to flaunt Southern style with bold fashion statements and hats. Lots of hats. The Lexus Velodrome is getting in on the fun with Derby Détroit, which features live entertainment, $5 mint juleps, live viewing of the race, as well as horses and jockeys.

Derby Détroit begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at the Lexus Velodrome; 601 Mack Ave., Detroit; lexusvelodrome.com. Tickets are $50+.
