Conan O'Brien announces Detroit stand-up show

Detroit fans of surrealist funny man Conan O'Brien are in luck — the well-coiffed comedian announced a Motor City date on his upcoming tour, his first since 2010.

Dubbed the "Team Coco Presents Conan & Friends: An Evening of Stand-Up and Investment Tips," the 18-date tour kicks off in Washington, D.C. in November. It has a stop at the Fillmore Detroit on Sunday, Nov. 4 featuring guest support from Rory Scovel, James Veitch, Marina Franklin, and Flula Borg.

"There are a lot of exciting changes coming up for me in 2019 and I wanted to kick it off this fall with an 18-city live tour," O’Brien says in a press release. "The idea that I hit the road for seven weeks was pitched by my wife, with the full backing of my children."

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Team Coco website.

As O'Brien alluded in his statement, the tour precedes a number of big changes in store for the comedian. Next year, his TBS talk show will shift to a 30-minute format, eliminating musical acts. (O'Brien's late-night show was long been lauded for its cutting edge music; in 2003, the White Stripes performed on the show for four nights in a row, and the band performed what would be its last show ever for the final episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 2009.) Also coming up, O’Brien’s entire late night catalog will be available for streaming next year.
